CLC's History
Putting
the
Pieces
Together
The Children's Learning Center originated in 1968 as a summer program for children of seasonal farm workers. By 1970, it became a full-year program serving children of migrant workers who decided to "settle out" in this area. The Center, incorporated as a community-wide service in 1971, was housed first in St. Paul's Episcopal Church and then in the old Glidden School building. It occupied space in a refurbished factory, which is now known as the Sonoco Alloyd Company building, from 1974-1984. In April 1984, CLC moved into the East Wing of Barb City Manor. In 1992, CLC moved into its current location.
